About Us
The Patriot Volunteers Ancient Fife and Drum Corps exists to educate the American
public about the history of our country by presenting traditional American folk
music on the fife and drum. We perform in parades, patriotic ceremonies and other
events. We educate the public in the history of the music and our nation by
performance, demonstration and instruction.
The Patriot Volunteers Ancient Fife and Drum Corps was founded in 2004 in
Yalesville, CT, and has performed in numerous events. Our members have performed
for several years in parades, ceremonies and other gatherings, and have won awards
in competition. Several of our members have received training from some of the best
fife and drum instructors in Connecticut, the fife and drum center of the world.
We have performed in the parade of the Deep River Ancient Muster, the largest annual
gathering of ancient fife and drum corps in the world.
We are a family-oriented corps based in Grand Rapids, MI. Our instruments and attire
follow traditional patterns. Our repertoire is selected from patriotic and traditional
tunes such as "America, the Beautiful," "Yankee Doodle" and "Grandfather’s Clock."
The "Patriot" in our name signifies our patriotism and love for our country.
"Volunteers" was a word used to describe the militia – soldiers who were not
part of the regular standing army, but volunteered for service, perhaps on a
special or temporary basis. Though we are not a military group, we use this
name to express our willingness and eagerness to actively participate in the
preservation of our national heritage.
