The Patriot Volunteers is a fife and drum corps in the ancient style. We exist to educate the American public about the history of our country by presenting traditional American folk music on the fife and drum.

From before the American Revolution, up to the time of the Civil War, fifers and drummers were an integral part of military music. Each company of soldiers had a fifer and a drummer attached to it. When the musicians of an entire regiment combined, they formed the fife and drum corps of the regiment. These musicians sounded the camp duty, which included the calls for wake-up (reveille) and curfew (taps) and military signals during battle. Today, the ancient style of fifing and drumming seeks to perpetuate these military tunes and the folk music of the 18th and 19th centuries.
